Osprey return year after year
Traveling
the road between Fauquier and Nakusp, you will spot many
large nests atop the power poles. These are home to the
numerous Osprey. Osprey return to their nests, which
they add to each Spring, to mate and lay their eggs.
Nests can become as large as five feet across and almost
as tall. Unlike many birds of prey, Osprey diet consists
of fish only. If you are lucky, you may spot one of
these magnificent birds hover above the water and then
talons first, plunge into the water, sometimes becoming
totally submerged, only to rise from the waters with
dinner firmly grasped in it’s talons.
