Wild
mushrooms in abundance
In
our beautiful Arrow Lakes Valley, there are
approximately 80 different edible wild mushrooms. Most
mushrooms can be found for only a limited time, usually
either in the spring or fall. Some are present in the
spring, then disappear during the hot dry summer months
and reappear in the fall. Each species of wild mushroom
has it own habitat. All mushrooms grow at different
elevations, some as high as 5000 ft. They grow on trees,
on the ground and on fallen wood. Many are difficult for
the untrained eye to see. Most mushrooms grow under
second growth forest singly, in groups or in clusters.
Knowing the differences between the mushrooms before
picking and eating them is essential. Enjoy a good
sampling of a variety of wild mushrooms at The Mushroom
Addition.
